Kids’ Winter Wool Interlock Shirts
Off and on since the weekend, I have been working on long sleeve wool t-shirts for the kids. This is the 100% merino wool (very soft) interlock from Covered Caboose. The wool comes natural in color. I use black thread because I am going to dye all the shirts in darker colors. I’ve finished constructing [...]
My Sewing Projects Using Merino Wool Interlock and Jersey
Here is an example of one of the (now eight) base layer t-shirts I made for my husband Jeff. The fabric is the regular 12-ounce 100% merino wool from Covered Caboose which I felted. I dyed all the shirts either black or chocolate brown. Two of the eight long-sleeve t-shirts are made from lighter-weight merino [...]
Thrift Store Report
Are you bored of my reports yet? The first thrift was having a 50% off storewide sale. Yahoo! I found some necessary things and saved a bunch! Winter coat for Mikah, $2.50 Adidas tennies for Mikah, $1.00 “Elements of Style” by Strunk & White, $.50 The next thrift store was not having a sale, but [...]
Thrift Store Report
I did hold back on the shop browsing because I knew we were going to a lady’s house at 4:30 to look through her fabric stash. She’s been telling me about giving/selling me her fabric for over a year, maybe two. She works at one of the thrift stores and noticed that I always buy fabric. She finally got through it all and we finally got over there yesterday. [...]
Bed Shopping
Perhaps my having chosen our bed before we’re ready to buy it would be considered “counting one’s chickens before they hatch” but it seems to make logical sense. We pick out a bed. Then we know how much money we need and can be saving up for it, while allowing time for pros and cons [...]
Thrift Store Report
At the Goodwill Outlet, I bought this lot for $2: 9 mis-matched glasses, shown here in my cupboard. We really needed the glasses, having only three left from our set that has broken over the years. I used to want matching, but I think I’m drawn at the moment to an eclectic set. Four of [...]
Black Linen Overdress
I finally made an overdress. I’ve been talking about it for long enough! After the trials of Friday, I went back to the drawing board. My friend suggested wrapping myself in duct tape to make a pattern fitted just for me, but lacking duct tape and a companion to help me with it, I elected [...]
Checking Things Off My List
This week has been so good for me. I really needed the break from school, more than the kids, I think. I am working my way through my list, but I do keep sneaking breaks to read Pride and Prejudice. I feel compelled to re-read it after I watch the movie. The movie is just [...]
Starting the Underdresses!
I can’t believe it! Today I am able to sew! I’m making sure everyone is fed, but most significantly, I’m IGNORING the fact that the house is a disaster. That has to wait until next week. The kids and Jeff are all outside breaking their backs cleaning up brush and burning some brush piles. Jeff [...]
What I’m Sewing
I received two colors of lightweight merino wool last week. They are very soft and stretchy, and more like t-shirt weight. The colors are navy and chocolate brown — both gorgeous! In the coming days, I plan on making t-shirts, pajamas, and underdresses (Eowyn’s informal gown that I mentioned weeks ago) out of the wool. [...]
