Started My Rearranging
I never can tell when the bug will hit. This one hit after 3 pm yesterday afternoon, not normally the time I start something new. But the sewing room was a mess, so I figured it was as good a time as any. I sorted through and organized things, moved one of the long tables out to the front porch (we needed a table out there for eating anyway), and…

Rearranging on My Mind
I’m not sure what to do yet, though. The rearranging would involve the family/sewing room and the living room. We no longer have to keep the computer by the phone line, as we aren’t on dial-up anymore. That would be nice to tuck it away somewhere. Someone may be giving us a piano, and I would need to free up an inside wall for that (if it is offered and…

Cleaning the Dishwasher
Just telling you about it… haven’t done it yet. My dishwasher’s performance has really been lacking lately. So lacking that I’ve been washing dishes by hand for the last month.
This looks like a good guide, so I’m going to follow it.
Please Take My Poll
Are you interested in sensible kitchen tool and storage solutions? Please take the poll!
By sensible, I mostly mean permanent kitchen solutions made from glass, stainless steel, wood, and bamboo. But also, in the case of paper products, that they be from recycled materials and any wax additions be from paraffin, not plastic, wax.
I appreciate your taking part…

Making My List
School is finished for the year! That feels sooo good. We got halfway through Sonlight’s Core 5 (Eastern Hemisphere) over the year, which is what I expected, given our workload. We won’t need to buy another core in the fall. But anyway, we are rethinking our school priorities. With all we do now and are beginning to add to our lives, we’re talking about working harder at the basics (Bible…

Chore System — Chore Cards
Traci posted a great idea the other day at the T2CHK Message Board — chore cards and card-holders. She said she got the idea from somewhere and made it to suit her family. I saw her idea this morning and I’ve made it to suit us!
I will focus on how I made this for my family. Traci’s system looks a little different.
The general idea –> Cards have chores…

Natural Skin Care Routine
For some months now, I have been following a mostly-homemade and natural skin care routine. I like it very much.
1) Suds up hands and face with homemade green tea castile bar soap or liquid castile soap (avoiding the eye area, because the castile soap burns).
2) While still sudsy, sprinkle a bit of baking soda in hands and scrub it gently on face along with…

What I’m Sewing
I received two colors of lightweight merino wool last week. They are very soft and stretchy, and more like t-shirt weight. The colors are navy and chocolate brown — both gorgeous! In the coming days, I plan on making t-shirts, pajamas, and underdresses (Eowyn’s informal gown that I mentioned weeks ago) out of the wool.
I am still working on caftans for a lady in town. She ordered 5 of…

Hitting the Bookcases
Not literally, of course! I cleaned out a bunch of shelves today. Three paper shopping bags are full of books to take to the bookstore for used book credit. Another paper bag of books and videos to return to the friends from whom we borrowed them. I also cleaned out my kitchen cookbook shelf. It is hard to part with cookbooks, but I decided a few could go — the…
