Doin' School

Doin’ School

Where do you do school? We use the dining room table. The kids set up their stacks of books, each to an area. They love to set up their workbooks! This does fit with their love of playing games that involve heaps of paperwork — like shops, doctor’s offices and such. To them, paperwork seems glamorous. They’ll learn. ;)

My Sewing Projects Using Merino Wool Interlock and Jersey

Here is an example of one of the (now eight) base layer t-shirts I made for my husband Jeff. The fabric is the regular 12-ounce 100% merino wool from Covered Caboose which I felted. I dyed all the shirts either black or chocolate brown. Two of the eight long-sleeve t-shirts are made from lighter-weight merino wool jersey, but not as…

Paper Dolls

Paper Dolls

My girls (and even my boy, until today) are into paper dolls. They colored and cut out all the sets they’d been given, so then we started scouring the internet for free black & white printable paper dolls.

My favorite of all is the Mary Engelbreit original (pictured at right) which we just found minutes ago. If only there were more of these…

Almost Done

It takes time to sell used homeschool curriculum, but I’m just about done. This morning, I shipped off the third of four Sonlight cores I had for sale. Only one core left! Anyone want it? ;) It is Core 3: Intro to American History, Year 1 (5-day).

I’ve had books in boxes lining the wall of the family room/sewing room for weeks. The piles are attracting other more boxes and other…

Homeschool Planner Clarity

Homeschool Planner Clarity

I have a very good friend here locally who saw my posts about being overwhelmed with what to do for homeschool planners. She, being the kind and thoughtful friend that she is, emailed me a copy of her simple spreadsheet form that she uses to keep track of what her children complete each week. She has one chart per week per child. I knew it looked good right when I…

Homeschool Planners?

Every year I have considered making homeschool planners. In fact, some years I have done so without realizing it and other years, I guess I decided not to do it because I fell back on the Instructor’s Guides from Sonlight for my record-keeping (and I don’t have that anymore, do I?). I’m still a bit confused as to what a planner actually is, but…

Homeschool Curriculum 2008-2009

Our homeschooling choices, narrowing them down… This is going to be a great school year! Though it is hard to nail down exactly what the kids’ grades are, I am considering Mikah to be in 2nd/3rd, Naomi to be 4th, and Haniya to be in 6th.

One Year Adventure Novel

Took the plunge… ordered the One Year Adventure Novel writing curriculum for Haniya. She’s not old enough by their guidelines, but she’s plenty ready for it! The girl has been writing stories for awhile and she needs direction. I’m really excited about this program. The website offers a free DVD demo disc with two sample lessons and it is done well. Free…

Homeschooling Shift

I’ve spent the better part of the last three days going through homeschooling curriculum. It has been bittersweet. I’ve gathered together and prepared for sale the last four Sonlight Cores (2,3,4 & 5) that we’ve used. These are history/world culture books that we’ve loved and cherished. But it is time for us to do something different.

I’ve listed everything for sale (and I’m still not done yet) on the…
