Last night we watched a new movie which released last week — Amazing Grace.

We thought it was excellent. It stars Ioan Gruffud, who we love from watching Horatio Hornblower (and here). He plays William Wilberforce, a member of Parliament who attempts for 15 years to get Parliament to abolish Great Britain’s participation in the slave trade. It also stars other great English actors who we’ve seen in other period movies (our favorite genre).

William’s wife-to-be does show quite bit of cleavage in a party dress during parts of the movie. I think they have her dressed that way because it is historically accurate. The nice thing is that much of the time her curls are arranged to cover parts of her cleavage so it is not so eye-catching (but you can still see it).

The movie features a remake of Amazing Grace by Chris Tomlin. We had never heard the song before, but perhaps others have. All in all, it is a well-made historical drama.
