Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. ~Matthew 6:21~

Jeff made me take a break on Saturday to walk around our property enjoying the wildflowers, aka dandelions, daisies, wild rose, lemon balm and other unidentifieds. He really had to twist my arm, I’m telling you.

Our local friends, Beth and Kerry Olson, of B & K Natural Farm (pastured poultry and eggs) invited us to accompany them on a mushrooming day. Of course we said yes, as it has been a life long dream of ours to learn more about this! Beth and Kerry have been mushroomers for 30 years, and have explored many areas of Oregon and Colorado over the years.

The Lord works in mysterious ways. His timing can’t be beat.
When I was home alone — the kids in California and Jeff also out of town — Piper went into labor. She is the goat who we never saw go into heat. We felt she must be pregnant but we had no idea when she would give birth.

One of the recent changes on our homestead has been getting ducks. We’re starting with raising Muscovy ducks for meat. We purchased three hens and The Drake from a local lady. This post is not only about the fun of these ducks, but about the demise of The Drake.

How was your Mother’s Day? Ours was wonderful! Jeff’s parents surprised us with a visit; Jerry (Jeff’s dad) was in Oregon for business so they extended their trip to stay with us for a few days. Judy and I both had an agenda – pictures. She wanted updated pictures of us for Jerry’s new office. And I wanted pictures… just because. I realize that there’s alot to catch up on Such Treasures. But because I can’t possibly catch up, I am just going to jump in, and try to fill in the blanks as I go.

Since Jeff had yesterday off due to Labor Day, and also because it wasn’t raining, we decided to go hiking in the Umpqua National Forest. When we moved here, five years ago?, we hiked to many waterfalls in that area. But no hiking there since. I guess you could say the hiking bug bit us when we were in Montana, at Glacier National Park.
Here’s a little diversion, but it does relate. Even though I know I’ll never be a great photographer, I do enjoy reading about it. A site I really enjoy is Digital-Photography-School.com. The tutorials offered are super and easily adaptable to GIMP (from Photoshop). Today’s tutorial is called “Creating Depth of Field With Filters and Masks”. I know it will be very useful in the food photos I take — I’ve always wondered how food photographers make the food focused and the background blurred. I decided to try out the technique first on a photo of Haniya from yesterday. She was taking a much needed drink on a hot (okay, warm) day.
