Crafts at Umpqua Store

umpqua-store-crafts

Yesterday we went to the grand re-opening celebration of the new Umpqua Store in Umpqua, OR on Fort McKay Road. They had a ribbon cutting and some hooping and hollering and then we all got to eat! Then we walked around and got a peek at the gift section, featuring some of the crafts we’ve made.

Tank Top Makeover: Nightgown

cut-out-skirt

Turn a tank top into a nightgown by adding a skirt. A super easy conversion whose inspiration came from my friend Regina. These are two nightgowns we made in about an hour, for her daughter. I made some mistakes ~ the following instructions account for all the things I did wrong the first time. The Lord is really teaching me about humility ~ not to overestimate how easy something will be or how well I can do it!

Naomi’s Pants

naomi-pants

Naomi finished a second pair of pants after starting out the other day. The pants she is wearing in this picture are from rip-stop cotton blend that I got for pennies at the thrift store. I have enough to make everyone at least one pair of outside sturdy pants. I am chagrined to read what I wrote the other day about how easily Naomi could make the brown linen pants that were the beginning of this escapade.

Naomi Is Sewing Pants

Very sweet. Naomi wants pants like mine. I happen to have much linen (purchased when on sale). I have not had much time for sewing lately, at least, not as much as I would like. So I told Naomi yesterday that she could make her own today. She got school done right quick this morning.

Easy Cutting with Cardboard Patterns

Do you have patterns that see frequent use — or do you have to cut many of them out at one sitting? Converting those paper patterns to cardboard will be a great help. This is what I have done with my merino wool headbands/ear warmers pattern. This will save time. No aching hands using this [...]

Bernina Straight Stitch Foot #13

bernina-13-foot

Thought I’d show you one of the new sewing machine feet I got recently. This is Bernina’s #13 straight-stitch foot. It is good for (quoting from Bernina.com) “all straight stitch work such as seaming, quilt piecing and topstitching. The small needle hole provides excellent fabric control. This foot is especially useful with difficult or delicate [...]

Girls’ Nightgowns and Boys’ PJ Pants

friends-pjs

I am not making Christmas pjs for my children this year. I made them pjs and wool shirts a few months ago when they really needed them. But a friend needed help sewing her kids Christmas pjs, and since I had an opening in my Christmas-pj-schedule I said I would help. Okay, who am I [...]

Adjustable Low-Shank Binder Foot for my Bernina

binder

I really get excited about sewing, as you probably know by now. And I love using binding, both on woven and knit fabrics. I have a coverstitch machine and a binder accessory for that, and while it works wonderfully on knits, it doesn’t do wovens for me without skipping stitches. I have used it off [...]

My Very Own Merino Wool Baselayer Shirts

w-wool-shirts-all

These are the 100% merino wool interlock shirts I just finished for myself. They all started out in the natural color and then I dyed them. Two blue, one brown and one black. The pic of me in blue is not very flattering, is it? Well, what can I say. I slept in that shirt [...]

100% Merino Wool Headbands/Ear Warmers

Would make a great Christmas gift, or who needs an occasion? A good headband/ear warmer is a very useful garment for anyone. My homemade 100% merino wool headbands/ear warmers cover the back of the neck and the ears fully. They are about the thickness of a thinner sweater, doubled. They are not bulky or itchy. [...]
