We had friends over today. Even though we’ve been sick with a cold, the visit was wonderful. These friends of ours have been through a cold lately, too, so we felt safe sharing germs.
They came at lunch time. We had set the table with all our nice tea cups and saucers. We made three kinds of tea — lemon zinger, white pomegranate, and mint. All sweetened with raw local, honey…

Off and on since the weekend, I have been working on long sleeve wool t-shirts for the kids. This is the 100% merino wool (very soft) interlock from Covered Caboose. The wool comes natural in color. I use black thread because I am going to dye all the shirts in darker colors. I’ve finished constructing one shirt for each child.
Due to various circumstances (shrinkage…

I usually make hot process soap, following the method in Handcrafted Soap by Dolores Boone, but this week I made cold process soap. I had been given a wooden soap mold and I was itching to experience the pouring of soap-brought-to-trace-but-not-fully-saponified into a prepared mold. Well, I experienced it. Can’t say that my life is any different now. The soap surely turned out…

I couldn’t make it to any thrift stores yesterday when we were out; the day was just too busy. But when I was packing our lunch, I realized that I’d neglected to share what I found last week (the week before maybe?). These four wooden bowls. Wish there were five, as there are five of us. But I’m sure someday, and probably soon, I’ll run across another wooden bowl. I…

This is our third year for having a quilt block swap and our second year having a fabric swap. We didn’t have as many participants in the quilt block swap this time, but those who did join in can add their 9-patches…

The last few days have been sooo busy. Although, Mikah and I have played many games of chess, checkers and Skip-Bo. He’s been the sweetest and most cheerful companion! On Tuesday, he helped me finish laying the electric wire and signaling wire and water pipe in the trench for the new pump circuit. (We did it to help Jeff because he ran out of time.) The reels of aluminum wire…

My girls are gone to an outdoor camp for three days, today through Wednesday. They were so excited they didn’t get a wink of sleep last night. I went to wake them at 5 am only to find them already emerged from their room with silly grins on their faces.
Mikah is very happy right now. He loves his sisters, but he thinks this time for the two of us is…
