Thrift Store Report

I used to be crazy about thrift stores – and I still am. But a few months back, I got busier on our days out. And also, I felt I was spending too much money at thrift stores on items that I didn’t really need. Since then, I have been hitting the thrift stores just a time or two per month.

I’ve gotten a few good and necessary things, which I haven’t reported here. I can only remember two: a brown wool/alpaca coat for $3. It is the perfect style and fit! Actually, my dream coat. The other item was a glass citrus juicer, also for $3. Both of those were on sale during a 50% off sale.

Yesterday we went to Goodwill. I kinda broke my rule about buying only necessary things when I allowed Naomi to buy an acquarium. :) But the girl is an animal lover and now when she figures out what she’d like to keep in there, she has a habitat ready. I’m sure she’ll tell you more about that on her blog, when she does an entry later today or tomorrow.

I looked for jeans/pants for Jeff – but didn’t find any.

For our household, I found about 10 nice glasses. They’re all round and sturdy.

I found a bunch of pretty, eclectic plates and bowls. I was looking for tableware with which to do food photos – you’ll be seeing those pop up in gnowfglins.com pictures.

I also found a really nice DeLonghi countertop oven. Our toaster oven (also a thrift store purchase) was on its way out, so finding a replacement is a really timely blessing!

I think that’s it for my finds from yesterday. Have you found anything good at thrift stores lately?

A thrift store report! I am so happy. I, too, haven’t been going as often and I, too, also recently bought a glass citrus juicer. I wanted one and kept seeing them for $7. Too much for me. Then, I found one on vacation for $1.99. A REALLY nice one with the stick up seed strainers. I brought it home as my souvenir. We are so easy to please, huh? Love ya!

Mary – How wonderful! We both found citrus juicers! I’m not sure what those stick up seed strainers would be though?

I forgot to add that a big find (last week) was a futon bed and frame for Mikah. This way we got his mattress off the floor. He’s happy and cozy now.

Good to “see” you – and love you, too!

I love thrift stores too, but I’m more of a browser. I’m looking for treasures. That rare item that speaks to me. I have a hard time buying something I don’t need. I have enough clutter without adding to it. But once in a while it’s nice to buy something I want. :) That doesn’t happen very often, though.

I’m sure Naomi was excited about her aquarium! I look forward to hearing what she has to say about it.

I went to Goodwill the other day to find a jean jacket for my daughter. I want to embroidery something on it for Christmas. Probably won’t now, since it is too large for her. I had high hopes. :(

There is a thrift store near us, but it isn’t very good.

I have been finding some great things at thrift stores lately. One of the stores here had all of their winter coats for $5, blankets for 75% off and a pair of snowboots that look brand new. Being new to Wyoming we needed those. Another store had a $3 bag sale, I got the girls pj’s, jeans, shirts (a full grocery store bag) and they were nice things since it was an upscale thrift store. We have a baby/childrens thrift store that takes trades. I took clothes and a seat that Christopher outgrew and brought home a new coat, shoes, pj’s and a walk behind toy for him at a cost of 41 cents. I try to be very careful about what I bring home because in the past I’ve picked up things I didn’t really need just because it seemed like such a good deal. I do have a list of things that I’m looking for and hope someday to find.

We live just around the corner from the Salvation Army but I constently forget to go there. Last week though I was looking for a water bottle for a rabbit cage and my son and I ran down there-no luck on the bottle but found a great buy. My second daughter loves playing Barbies and always wants picnics, etc. with them. Guess what I found-A picnic table that fit her Barbies! I should have kept it for Christmas but was so excited to give it to her. She was ecatic! It was on sale 25% off so it came to under $3.00. What a happy momma I was! You never know what you will find.
