We worked from sunup to sundown Saturday and Sunday, and then from noon to past dark on Monday, to finish our barn. Or at least get it done enough to keep the animals dry and shelter the remaining water and electrical work ahead of us.
I didn’t take pictures of everything we did, but here’s a rundown: finish siding the back, add corner trim and door trim, stack the lumber inside, make finishing connections for the water system, fill trenches with dirt, create animal stalls, move feed and milking stand to new barn, move fences, create corridor for animals to enter and exit, add gate to keep animals from leaving the wrong way and down the driveway, dirt work to prevent water running into the barn, and turn on the new water system.

- The kids and I stacked all that lumber, like a puzzle
- Digging for the old water line, to make sure our fence posts wouldn't hit it
- Finished siding the barn!
- Jeff piled up dirt on the high side so water won't run in
- Cutting the old water line to the house, to tap in the new water line
- Mikah tends the cut water line while Jeff stepped away
- The controls for the water system
- After dark, last minute moving dirt inside to prevent water running in
- Jeff moving dirt around to prevent water running in, Haniya holding up the light so he could see
- The goats were spooked by their new home (pretty bare until we lay down bedding)
We felt so good last night, even though it was late when we came in. Jeff had taken most of yesterday (Monday) off so we could finish. We hoped we would. It was the last sunny day. God worked it out – helped us finish. We got the animals moved in the nick of time – as last night it started raining!

Wonderful job! You must have been exhausted, but a good tired, huh? I can picture the goats with the hair up on their backs, checking everything out. They’re so funny. You guys really did get this project done in good time. For starting so late, it came together rather quickly. I know it probably doesn’t seem quick to you but sometimes it takes us months or years to finish a project like this! LOL! The pictures are great but I can’t help wishing I could see it in person.

Gracious me — what a change has been made since we were there in July. It looks GREAT. I am so proud of all of you working together to accomplish such a huge task. Is the water running into the house now? Good job and we look forward to seeing it someday — hopefully sooner than later. We love you and miss you.

Gramma Judy – it is amazing the change! We’re all so exhausted and actually quite tired of working on it, but enjoying having the goats in there and adjusting to the new system. Jeff still has to put lights in there and create his shop. We do have the new water running to the house now – but only the first phase of it, which is the storage tank/pressure tank into the house. The second phase is hooking the well/pump up so that it fills the storage tank. We had a water truck bring us our first 2000 gallons so we wouldn’t stress the well filling up that huge amount. Jeff was home yesterday (Wed) working on phase 2 which we hope he’ll be able to finish by the weekend’s end. Or at least before the 2000 gallons runs out! We love and miss you, too.
Very Impressive!
You all are amazing! It all looks wonderful.
