Last weekend, even though it was rainy and muddy, we got much done.
On Friday, our siding arrived. It is not a perfect color match.
We weren’t too concerned about matching the color. This is what was available to us, so it is what we got.
On Saturday, in the rain, Jeff and the kids finished framing most of the pole barn.
On Sunday, our friend Joe and his family came over. Joe and Jeff put the mud skirts up, along with the siding on the two long sides and half the front. I like the color block look. What concerns us is that should we sell our property someday, we hope people won’t be turned away by the colors.
On Monday, Jeff took the day off work. The weather turned nice. He and I put the siding up on the rest of the front. We framed the back side of the barn.
On Tuesday, Jeff took another day off work. He went back over the three sided-sides and screwed in all the remaining screws. We hoped to be able to side the back, but we didn’t get to it.
The pictures don’t show the finished front. We added some trim around the doorway to finish the metal edges. It really looks nice. We like it.
This coming weekend should be dry. We are going to hang the siding on the remaining back side. I will help with this. We will also add all the trim to the four corners. Then Jeff plans on doing tractor work – bringing in dirt to make the ground level inside. He also wants to create the stalls in the barn for the animals, milking area, feed storage, shop, etc. We’ll have to move fences, too, in order for the animals to be able to get in and out of the barn in their own territory (not ours!).
He also wants to turn “on” the new water system from the storage tank. He probably won’t get to hooking up the other circuit – from the well to the storage tank. But we can hope.
This is amazing. We’ve never done a project like this. It has been fun, challenging, and fulfulling!

Looks great, good job! What a wonderful and useful barn space that’s going to be!

Naw, I don’t think the color matters.
It looks really good! It’s a good-sized barn, you’ll be able to do a lot in there. Is your land terribly unlevel? We are so flat here. Does it or will it have a door on the front? Nice Jeff was able to take the time off to work on the barn. Around here, that’s called “makin’ hay while the sun shines”.

Wow!
Great work. A ton of work. I don’t think the color matters. I think it looks great and will be a huge step towards keeping your animals safe and sound. Way to go! I am praying for your safety as your family completes this project.
I am really enjoying following your barn-raising adventure! Have a wonderful weekend, working on your barn.
Hugs, Robin
Marg – Sorry I didn’t see your questions until now (or they didn’t sink in
) – our land is not level. We’re on the side of a hill. We’re not sure what to put in for a “door” – it will probably be a gate but we’ll keep it open for now. There’s a similar opening in the back, but we don’t anticipate ever gating that, as the animals will use it to come in and out on their own initiative.
That’s okay, Wardeh.
Side of a hill = good drainage. Apple trees would do well planted on your property, put in the right spot.

Ooh, apple trees… can’t wait until we start growing some food!
