Framing the Pole Barn – Timeline for Barn/Water Project

Another busy weekend at our place. We’re on a time crunch to get our barn done. It is raining today, which is disconcerting. Makes us worried. Makes us pray that the Lord will keep the winter rains at bay for a few more weeks.

Homeschool Curriculum ~ 2009-2010

ACEset

A week has passed and I haven’t mentioned that we went “back” to school last Monday. We do a bit of schooling all summer, but it seems like we really took a summer break this year because of the kids’ two vacations. We’re all happy to be back to it. Once again, we made some curriculum changes. And I’ve neglected to write about that, too. ;)

Setting Posts

Our barn project is moving along. We’re putting in a new water system and closing in the pole barn, with sides. Jeff and our friend have been working on the plumbing once a week for several weeks, which they finished yesterday. Next week they’ll begin the electrical. Jeff asked me to help him set posts on Saturday. And I really didn’t want to. What I expected would be hours of just holding up 16 foot posts turned into exactly that. About 4 hours of holding up posts. It was hard on the arms, let me tell you! But suprisingly, I enjoyed being outside working with him. It was a pretty nice day and it felt good to help with the project.

Girls’ Nightie with Fold-Over Elastic

nightie-Talitha

Yesterday, I made this nightie for a friend’s daughter. You can bet that I am most excited about using fold-over elastic! It went as binding around the neckline. Then I used it to bind the hem edges – end of arms and bottom of nightie. I know I could have done the bottom hem/binding area better – now that I’ve done it once, I’ll do it better next time.

Amazing Bamboo Fabric

Jeff at Two Medicine Lake

Before we left for vacation, and over the summer, I made good use of the bamboo jersey I purchased from Nature’s Fabrics. I made tank tops for me and the girls, and long sleeve t-shirts for Jeff. I can’t say enough about how good these shirts feel to wear, especially in the summer. They’re lightweight, soft, and cool. Jeff and I wore ours every time we hiked this summer and neither of us got overly hot, even though we experienced some very hot summer days. Take a look at the extraordinary properties of bamboo fabric!

Wool Sock Experiment

No, I am not knitting wool socks. No time for that. My projects have to be fast. ;) Before I tell you about my experiment, let me make a confession.

Hiking in the Umpqua National Forest

IMG_6628

Since Jeff had yesterday off due to Labor Day, and also because it wasn’t raining, we decided to go hiking in the Umpqua National Forest. When we moved here, five years ago?, we hiked to many waterfalls in that area. But no hiking there since. I guess you could say the hiking bug bit us when we were in Montana, at Glacier National Park.

We’re Home!

Bull Moose at Upper Two Medicine Lake

Our vacation in Montana was wonderful! The kids are still there, spending an additional week at my parent’s house. Haniya and I kept very busy taking pictures – she’s got some beautiful shots over at her blog, which she was very good about updating even while gone. When Jeff and I got back home early Friday morning, we looked through our pictures. In fact, we keep looking through them. The trip was fantastic and we enjoyed every minute of it! We’ve never had a chance to do so much hiking before, and we took advantage of it.
