Goat Milk Soap – Part 3

I delivered my goat milk soap yesterday to Localvore Fresh Oregon Foods, a new food store in Sutherlin that features Oregon-grown, naturally-grown food items.

Goat Milk Soap – Part 2

just out of the mold

Allrighty. I bet you’re thinking that it took me long enough to show you the cut up bars of goat milk soap. All I can say is that the reason this took me so long is because it was really hard to do. ;)

Kids’ California Trip Slideshow

Here’s a video slideshow made from pictures taken of the kids and the places they went during their trip to California the past two weeks. The kids and their companions (Gramma Judy, Grampa Jerry and Auntie Jenn) covered about 2000 miles on this trip – Santa Barbara, Santa Clarita, Santa Monica, Fresno/Clovis, Shaver Lake and Yosemite – all from Oregon and back! Thank you to all who made this trip so fabulous for the kids – Gramma Judy, Grampa Jerry, Auntie Jenn, Uncle Jeremy, Aunt Sara, Cole, Braydon, Uncle Jim, Aunt Peg, Heather, Colby … We love you all!

Barn Project Moving Along

This weekend, Jeff has really made progress on our barn project. We are adding sides to the roof-only pole barn. This involved cleaning out under it and taking down a shed — all for the purpose of being able to grade the extremely sloped ground under the existing structure. Well, he’s to this grading step, praise the Lord! He is also creating a tractor through-way at the back. A stump was in the way, which he took out this morning and I captured on video. I edited the 12 minutes of video to around 2 minutes – and I did it so the kids would be able to see some of what they’ve missed when they’ve been away. I’ll share it here because I think my mom will want to see it. And you might, too?

Lonely (Hungry) Turkey Hen

This wild turkey hen in this video doesn’t have any babies. She hangs around and even comes in the barn during milking to scrounge for spilled food. The goats are notoriously wasteful – and this hen has figured it out! She’s scared of me. If I come in the stall where she is, she will run in circles, frantically, looking for her way out.

Girls in Tank Tops

I couldn’t wait for the girls to get home to give them the tank tops I made, using fold-over elastic as the binding on the arms and neck. So I sent the tops to California. And what I got back is this picture. Haniya and Naomi must have just gotten out of the pool. The girls and Mikah will be home on Sunday – we’re ready for the reunion!

Goat Milk Soap – Part 1

partially frozen (slushy) goat milk in an ice water bath

This is not going to be a goat milk tutorial. There are so many good tutorials on the web and I’m not a proficient or knowledgeable enough soap maker to think I could cover the subject well. But here are some pictures and brief descriptions of the process I underwent yesterday in my first attempt at making goat milk soap.

Grateful

I wrote last week and yesterday about how we’ve gotten two flat tires. I didn’t mean to sound ungrateful. Because even though having two flat tires could be very inconvenient, the simple truth is, it wasn’t.

The Shed Came Down

Under our pole barn, which is soon to become the animals’ permanent residence, there was a shed.
