Very sweet. Naomi wants pants like mine. I happen to have much linen (purchased when on sale).
I have not had much time for sewing lately, at least, not as much as I would like.
So I told Naomi yesterday that she could make her own today. She got school done right quick this morning. As I type this, she is sewing one leg together and will probably be done in an hour. I will serge the elastic on, but she’s doing the rest. I’ll have her model them for you. She picked brown linen.
Here she is, cutting them out. Today is a beautiful day. She must really want those pants to be inside. She would live outside if she could.
She’s using her pajama pants pattern.
The process for sewing pants is quite simple. Naomi has not sewn pants before, but I know her skills and have no doubt she’ll be able to do all these steps:
- Sew a front to a back at inner seam and side seam (keep right sides together); repeat for second leg.
- Place one leg inside the other (right sides together) and sew crotch seams together. Reinforce by double stitching at the bottom of the crotch if necessary.
- Use one of these techniques to attach elastic at the waistband using serger: easy serger elastic waistband and easy sewing machine elastic waistband.
- Hem.
Update: See Naomi in a finished pair here. (And read how I managed to royally mess up this process.)

Sounds like the pattern my guys used to sew pj pants when they were in middle school.
Wooo! Go Naomi!
I like the idea in the picture of setting something heavy on the pattern to hold it in place. If I ever start sewing again, I will begin by reading all of your blog entries on the subject!
Kate, those are my makeshift fabric weights — I didn’t want to spend money and buy the official kind. So we use candles, scissors, jars of buttons, and it works just as well.
Love, Wardeh
