Today we had to go into town because Haniya needed her headgear (braces) adjusted. It was an unplanned trip, so we made a day of it and went to a park on the Umpqua River. It was a bit rainy and windy, but not terribly so during the time we were there. We have to go back to town tomorrow for to see the dentist, so we’ve planned to have lunch at the river again. Mikah especially is happy about this.
This was the good part of today. On the whole, we have had some challenges today. But you know what? We are all still smiling. All of it happened to Haniya. Since there were so many hurdles in her day, I am just going to list them and save you the trouble of having to count.
1) Unbeknownst to her, Haniya’s glasses (in the case) slipped out of her pocket when she was taking her muck boots off to get in the truck. We drove on out. She realized after just a couple seconds that they were missing. We hadn’t even left the driveway. She got out to find them. Naomi got out to help. I looked in the rearview mirror to find Haniya sobbing, holding up a completely crushed glasses’ case. We had driven over it. Wonder of wonders, her glasses looked a little wonky, but we thought they’d be okay. First stop: eye doctor. The ladies there warned us that the metal had been stressed and might break when adjusted. But no! It did not break! We witnessed a miracle today, I am telling you. We are all sooo thankful.
2) The metal contraption do-dad that hooks into the bands on Haniya’s teeth (part of the headgear/neckgear thing) broke off. Now that metal had been stressed during its adjustment earlier in the day. Thankfully, we are going to the dentist tomorrow and they have promised to remove the part that is still stuck in her mouth. It isn’t causing any discomfort. On Friday, we will have to go to town (again, three days this week!) to get a new headgear do-dad contraption thing.
Should I go on?
3) Haniya stabbed herself with the knife on her Leatherman. The accident could have been prevented and she now knows how. This injury is plaguing her.
4) Haniya took a tumble at the park (Mikah was chasing her). Now she has a scraped up hand and sore wrist.
I tell you, she has been crying alot today. And smiling just as much, by the grace of God, which makes me proud of her.
Now on a lighter note, check out Mikah’s Happy Dance. He had no idea that I was “watching”.
In his excitement over rock throwing, he danced!

Poor Haniya! How sad! What a blast of a day! (just kidding!) First one thing then another then another!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
love you lots!
But you put it really funnily. Have a BLESSED day (which ever day you’re on).!
Love Your Daughter,
Naomi Marie
Who’s sister has had one ROUGH day! Poor Haniya!
Well, I guess Haniya is one brave girl, and she is in good company that will always make her smile again. Go Haniya, and go all of you!
The river looks fun!
Marta from Spain
Hi, Marta! I’m thrilled you comment now and then from Spain. I think it is really cool! Haniya is a brave girl. I will tell her you said so. The river was fun. We are going again today and looking forward to some better weather, too! Love, Wardeh
Poor Haniya. Poor mom. We have gone through the braces thing – 3 kids so far. One still a maybe. (Don’t get me started on eye glasses!) Many times a breaking wire, getting fixed, going home, breaking again. Many times on weekend – dad with wire snippers cutting offending wire that is poking child in cheek. A month ago Chloe left her retainer on her dresser, it fell on the floor and our dog, Lucy (who is not a chewer and doesn’t chew things) chewed it up. Tasty, huh? Apparently. That cost $100. I have had to drive 4 hours all told before to pick up college daughter who stepped on her retainer and broke it. We have suffered much braces trauma.
However, the end result is well worth it. Haniya has a lifetime of smiles ahead of her! Praying for smoother sailing the next town trip!
