Boredom or Contentment?

This year, winter in Oregon has been atypical. I’m probably not a good authority on that, though, as we’ve only been here four winters. But this year, it has been uncommonly dry and uncommonly cold.

Yesterday was both dry and cold (but not too cold, just cold for Oregon) and nice weather like that calls the kids out to play. I often watch them through the window, amazed at what they find to do. Now that I have a camera with video ability, I can capture a few minutes.

This is really a video for grandmothers, grandfathers and aunts to enjoy. Probably most everyone else will find it boring.

Unless… you turn it into a game:

  • try to count how many different things the kids find to do in these minutes OR
  • try to figure out exactly what they’re doing OR
  • hazard some guesses as to why the girls have their sweaters on backward OR
  • guess what Mikah is swinging on that stick OR
  • count how many mole holes we have and try to guess the size of the mole colony OR
  • another counting/guessing game of your choosing!

If you come up with any answers, let me know in the comments section. Straight away, I will have the kids verify any truths or dispel any myths.

  1. Are you kidding?? Those mounds of dirt are *mole hills*?? How big are the moles in Oregon, anyway?? LOL From the size of the hills ( if that’s what they are)your miles are the size of cats :o D
I have no idea about your questions, except to venture that the sweaters were on backwards so they could use the hoods for something…other than covering their heads.

    Love

Well… Jeff says they’re moles and we often find dead ones, so yes, we believe they are moles. We must make them big! But when we find dead ones they’re not as big as cats. So maybe they’re not moles? If we ever figure it out, you’ll be the first to know!

Yes, the girls were using their hoods for something but I won’t say what yet, in case anyone else wants to guess.

You were sweet to watch the video. :D

      Love, Wardeh

    * try to count how many different things the kids find to do in these minutes:

9 different things. Was hard to tell as the video kept starting and stopping

    * try to figure out exactly what they’re doing:

They were trying to find live rodents

    * hazard some guesses as to why the girls have their sweaters on backward:

I’m going to guess that the shirts were on backwards so that the hoods could be used to carry things.

    * guess what Mikah is swinging on that stick:

    A dead rodent

    * count how many mole holes we have and try to guess the size of the mole colony:

54 holes. 230 moles No particular reason, just like those numbers.

    * another counting/guessing game of your choosing!:

Three awesome kids playing around 54 mole holes, 1 swinging 1 dead rodent on 1 stick, while chasing 1 sister.

    Tee hee hee! Hugs, Robin

You’re about right…I’m not exactly sure myself! LOL

    * try to figure out exactly what they’re doing:

They were trying to find live rodents.

    Nope!

    * hazard some guesses as to why the girls have their sweaters on backward:

I’m going to guess that the shirts were on backwards so that the hoods could be used to carry things.

    Wrong again! :D

    * guess what Mikah is swinging on that stick:

    A dead rodent.

    Sorry…but, no. Pretty close though.

    * count how many mole holes we have and try to guess the size of the mole colony:

54 holes. 230 moles No particular reason, just like those numbers.

Ooh, me too! It’s got to be something like that!

Just change some words around and you’ll have the correct answers!

P.S. If you really want to know the answers, ask, and I’ll tell you.

  4. Robin says:

I would love to know the answers!

Thank you, Haniya! :D Hugs, Robin

    Okay, then!

    * try to count how many different things the kids find to do in these minutes:

Like I said, I’m not exactly sure of this answer…

    * try to figure out exactly what they’re doing:

Which part? When Naomi and Mikah were digging in the mole hills, they were seeing who could dig the deepest hole. I was taking pictures. Then, Naomi turned digging in mole hills into a dirt fight… :D

    * hazard some guesses as to why the girls have their sweaters on backward:

Because we were playing Blind Man’s Bluff and we didn’t have anything to cover our eyes with. ;)

    * guess what Mikah is swinging on that stick:

Part of a cow pie…yes, gross. No wonder we were running away from him.

    * count how many mole holes we have and try to guess the size of the mole colony:

    Not exactly sure…alot though!

    * another counting/guessing game of your choosing!

Three awesome kids playing around tons of mole holes, 1 swinging 1/2 of a cow pie on 1 stick, while chasing 1 sister.
