Haniya’s Photo Shoot

Yesterday Haniya asked for the camera to take outside when the kids visited and fed our 8 Nigerian Dwarf goats and Trouble, the steer. I tell ya, I do not need to take any more pictures. Haniya can have the job from here on out and she’ll do it well! She took care of cropping, scaling, and color balancing all these photos in GIMP. But, now she found herself in the predicament which finds me most of the time. When you’re taking the pictures, it is hard to be in any of them. Thus, no pictures of Haniya today.

Two days ago, the ground was still entirely covered by snow. We received snow for two weeks. Then two days ago, it started raining. Pouring actually. Washed away and melted almost all the snow. Finally, the goats and the cow could start grazing again.

During the heavy snow (it was up to mid-thigh on the kids, above the knee on the grown ups), we lost several trees. The kids counted 25 total of downed branches, fallen over trees, or bent over trees. Today, the wind is blowing and Jeff is worried about more trees falling. The ground is so wet. In particular we have three or four madrones surrounding the barn. Eventually we are planning to take them down, but we are worried they might fall over today with the wind and wet weather.

  11. Elaine says:

Those are great photos :D We do not have a lot of pictures of me either since I’m usually the one taking them, part of that is because I don’t like what I look like in the pictures.

I hope that the trees do not come down on their own because of the wind. We’ve had quite a bit of wind the past few days and the worst seems to be over now, it has been bitterly cold.

  12. Wardeh says:

No more trees down! Thanks for your prayers.

As for the camera, it is an 8 year old digital Olympus D-490 Zoom. We got it when Mikah was born, around Christmas-time (thanks, Mom!). I have been nursing it for awhile now. One of these days, it won’t cooperate anymore. For now, though, it works. The cameras out there now are much better. But this one has lasted so long that even if it isn’t that fancy, I am thankful it has been so dependable.

    Love, Wardeh
