Naomi got the bug to paint today. We pulled down all my acrylic paints and had an art afternoon. I really enjoy being with my children, more and more all the time. I tried to show them how to do simple one-stroke leaves and daisies (like some on this painted mailbox and painted welcome sign), but that was too difficult for them. They enjoyed trying and weren’t discouraged, though.
I encouraged them that I didn’t learn how to do it until I was an adult and the way I learned it was through hours and hours of practice. Haniya says she remembers me painting every day, at the table and in the garage, when she was just a few years old. I did alot of painting then. I was really into it and painted tea trays and rocking chairs and birdhouses and benches and mailboxes…
I guess now my thing is sewing. But, I enjoyed the painting today. I didn’t intend to join in but I couldn’t help myself. I painted a couple flower collages on white paper which I suppose I’ll put in the mail as cards to someone. (Below-Left: Pansy Tea Tray, many years ago; Right: Rose Birdhouse, many years ago also.)
Mikah painted some super pictures. His pictures always have stories behind them and they usually have to do with machines, warriors and weapons. Haniya painted some awesome made-up maps. Naomi practiced and practiced the one-stroke leaves and flowers. She’ll get it some day.
Yesterday, I received an order for a neck/shoulder flax seed pack. I am to deliver it tomorrow. Do you think I ought to start working on it? Jeff is out of town at a conference and because of my procrastination I’m virtually assured now of staying up later than usual. I’m going to make a removable/washable cover for it, too.
Now I am going to start cutting out the fabric for the flax seed pack. The kids are watching a movie and I popped popcorn for dinner. That’s the only good thing about when Jeff is out of town — popcorn is on the menu! I got a funny jaw pain just now and it was when I was taking a bite out of a Trader Joe’s dark chocolate bar. Does this mean I can’t have popcorn and chocolate anymore?

Oh no, I think it DOES mean you can’t have popcorn and chocolate anymore. This is truly a crisis. What ever will you do?
Seriously, though, your painted items are lovely and I’m glad you showed them to us. I have a book on One Stroke painting, but that’s all the farther I got.
