Movie: Miss Potter

We watched Miss Potter (2006) last night; a very sweet movie. Sometimes, movies are disappointing, either because they’re too kiddish, too silly, or too artsy. This one was perfectly clean, sweet, well-done, and inspiring.

This movie tells the “story of Beatrix Potter, the author of the beloved and best-selling children’s book, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, and her struggle for love, happiness and success” — IMDB.

My internet search for her drawings was rewarded this morning by finding The World of Beatrix Potter. It includes an introduction, a section on her life, and a section on her art. Here’s that site’s synopsis of Beatrix Potter’s sad, successful and inspiring life:

The ideal subject for the Hollywood film Miss Potter in 2006, the story of Beatrix Potter’s life held both great sadness and great success. After the tragic death of her fiancĂ© and publisher, Norman Warne, Beatrix remained unmarried until the age of 47, when she married William Heelis, a Lake District solicitor. She dedicated her later years to preserving the ecology and natural beauty of the Lake District, becoming a farmer and breeding Herdwick sheep. She worked closely with The National Trust and left them a substantial part of her estate to be preserved as a living landscape. — Beatrix Potter’s Life

You perhaps already know about this movie. If you haven’t seen it, though, I recommend it!

Want to hear something extremely ironic? We watched this movie last night after not having seen it since the springtime. I bought it at that time and watched it several times. With all of the yardwork I had forgotten about it for a time, until I suddenly remembered it last evening around 9:00 p.m. our time. I really enjoy this movie and it has become one of my favorite top five movies. (Little Women, P&P, Charlotte’s Web, Wives & Daughters are in that group) Even though it has a very sad part, it, to me, is so rich and delightful that I could watch it over and over.

Robin, how neat that we were watching the same movie last night! I would just like to know why you never told me about it??? ;) You know I’m kidding. Yes, it does have the very sad part. I hated that I could tell it was coming and I didn’t want that to happen. But it was so good! Love, Wardeh
