Homeschool Planners?

Every year I have considered making homeschool planners. In fact, some years I have done so without realizing it and other years, I guess I decided not to do it because I fell back on the Instructor’s Guides from Sonlight for my record-keeping (and I don’t have that anymore, do I?). I’m still a bit confused as to what a planner actually is, but Applie (and here) is helping to set me straight. (Thank you!)

I have looked around at Donna Young’s website full of home and school forms. What a good looking bunch of helpful forms! I suppose the trick is to find the ones that will be truly helpful, otherwise one could get overwhelmed by setting up a planner that will get in the way of planning by the sheer magnitude of forms it contains. (Kind of like that run-on sentence got so clunky you couldn’t understand it.)

I am not familiar enough with planning (in terms of forms) to know what would work for us and what wouldn’t. So I’m planning to do more exploring before I print anything.

So, here’s a post about planning to make planners, without making any plans yet. No wonder I feel overwhelmed.

  1. I tried printing things off last year, but I prefer getting a plain lesson plan book. They are spiral bound and have blank squares to fill in. This is the one I use: The Homeschooler’s Journal.

Hope that helps, but we each have to find our own way. That’s the hard part. ;)

  2. LOL, Well, Wardeh, you just need to plan some time, to check out all the planners, to plan which planner items you need to plan time to print.

What does your state require? Do you need a curriculum list, reader list, attendance, etc. Find out and then start printing those. Put them in a folder until later. Now you need to decide how you want your schedule done, weekly, monthly, daily? Then go from there. Once you pick out what you need for your family, the rest is easy to plan. LOL

    You’re doing good.

  3. Michelle, yes that is just what I need to do!

Actually, our state doesn’t require anything, so perhaps that’s my problem? Figuring out what I require? ;)

Thanks for all the help you’ve been. Love,Wardeh

  4. Renae,

I appreciate hearing what that the spiral bound lesson planner works for you. You are right that we each have to find our own way. I know I need to keep my solution simple because after 6 years of homeschooling, I have yet to keep good records.

    Love, Wardeh

  5. I never used to make a planner either but but now that I’m homeschooling and going to college and still heavily involved in my church. I have to or nothing would get done or would be lost. I make up a reference book for my kiddoes every year and it helps.
