Checking Things Off My List

This week has been so good for me. I really needed the break from school, more than the kids, I think. I am working my way through my list, but I do keep sneaking breaks to read Pride and Prejudice. I feel compelled to re-read it after I watch the movie. The movie is just never enough; I feel the need to immerse myself in the entire dialogue and happenings.

Since the quilt is finished, I moved down my list today to complete the planting things. Naomi helped me separate out all the aloe vera shoots. There were nine besides the original plant. We planted some in disposable pots to give to friends and some permanently to mature here for our own use. We also prepared four microgreen trays. One is for buckwheat and one for sunflower. The other two are ready for when I go to start two more trays in a few days. All of those are now on the back porch, like so.

I traced a pattern for a dress today, but have yet to cut anything out. It is a costume pattern, for a medieval dress with princess seams, although I’m not looking for a costume. (Simplicity 9891) Are princess seams really medieval, I wonder? I haven’t cut anything out because I’m still thinking on the changes I will make to it. I have to check fit first of all, so I’ll make it out of a sheet and baste the major parts together. I may not put sleeves in because I’ll want to wear it over a wool underdress ala Eowyn’s informal dress, which I’ve mentioned many times and not made yet.

Now it about time to make dinner. The friend whose quilt I finished gave us some ground elk meat so that is what I’ll brown for dinner tonight. We are scrounging for meat at the moment, having finished our 1/2 beef from last summer, so the receipt of the elk meat is very timely.

The dress pattern you mention using is what I refer to as ‘period’ish’.. :) It’s a modrn version of the dress you wish to make, but is more than adequate. It’s main difference is implementing modern tailoring techniques. Here’s a link to a period pattern if you ever get the wild urge to sew one in that fashion:

I know how busy your days are, but I’m really looking forward to seeing the finished dresses. :)
