Awesome Apostles
The past few weeks have found me reading the history of the early church as recorded in Acts. I find it awesome to read of the travels of the apostles. They were real men — Paul was a tentmaker. They had differences of opinion that affected the ministry of Jesus Christ — “the contention [between Paul and Barnabas] became so sharp that they parted from one another” (Acts 15:39). They were often weary and worn. But in spite of them having the weaknesses of a men’s bodies, the Lord protected their lives as they worked for Him. Once Paul was stoned and thought to be dead, and on another occasion, he was bit by a viper on the island of Malta. Both Paul and Peter were in prison repeatedly and supernaturally released by angel on occasion.
In all the difficulties that God’s Word reveals they faced, the apostles were always obedient to God’s call on their lives. They all knew the “peace of God which surpasses all understanding” which would “guard [their] hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” Their confidence in Him led them securely in the face of danger and persecution to preach His name joyfully. In the face of scorn and mockery, they continued to use the Scriptures to prove that Jesus was the long-awaited Messiah.
I’ve found myself desiring the intimate communion they enjoyed with their Lord, Jesus Christ. I desire to know His Word well. I desire to communicate the Love of Jesus Christ with every breath. I desire that I would be strong in the face of persecution, should I ever face it. I long to live as though nothing else matters save living and loving my Lord. And I’m not special, not like the apostles of the early church, who gave us God’s inspired Word through which we can know Him today. But even so, the promises they shared — of which just one is: peace that passes all understanding — are for me, today. And they are for you, too!

Hi Wardeh,
I miss having you here with your wisdom and insight. I’m glad you have your blog so you can “mentor” us all from afar.
Take care.
Staci
Staci,
I miss you, too.
That’s sweet of you to say so, although I wouldn’t say that about myself …I just like to share (now and then).
God bless you and your sweet family!
Love, Wardeh
I actually read your post out loud to my husband because I loved it so much and just knew that he would feel the same way. Communion is VERY important to us. We attend liturgical churches for that very reason — we want communion every week — sometimes more than just once or twice. It tops the list in our minds as not only a way to be touched by God but to share in the fellowship of our brothers and sisters in Him. We feel so blessed to be able to worship and commune freely. Each time that I take communion, I am thankful for my freedom and I pray for all the others taking communion throughout the world who risk their lives to take part in such a holy and beautiful ritual.
Blessings to you, Wardeh.
Lacy
