Oh, I do love sewing baby clothes! I never did any when I was having babies (but I wish I had). I know why I didn’t sew then — no time. And I was also in my extreme housekeeping phase then when all I did besides take care of the babies, was keep everything spotless and clutter free. I guess I’ve relaxed some since then, since I really don’t clean now until things get bad.
That’s not necessarily good, but it does mean I have more time to sew!
My brother-in-law and his wife are expecting a baby boy soon. I just finished making a layette set for him — sleeping gown, t-shirt, leggings, and hat. Shortly, I’ll share a picture of the layette set (took a picture, see below).

Haniya and Naomi started making him (my nephew, their cousin) a flannel quilt over the weekend. The girls will hopefully finish the quilt soon, but they’ve caught Mikah’s cold and haven’t gotten back to working on it since Sunday.
Now I’m working (finished now, see picture below) on a little dress, pantaloons and hat for a baby girl born last week to my college friend. I made a dress like it last spring. I guess I’ve made the hat before, too. Those links take you to the ones I’ve made before.

Pictures are coming, but I thought I’d tell you what I’m working on.

The outfits are adorable. I love them. I love the handmade gifts I received when I had Grace – they mean so much more too.
Those baby clothes are darling! I had an extreme housekeeping phase, too! lol! I like the relaxed phase much better

Hi Wardeh,
Happy New Year Harmons!
A close friend is about to become a first time grandmother and I thought it would be special to make some of these adorable little infant clothes that you did. The glitch is…I haven’t tried my hand at baby clothes yet. Do you have any tips or patterns or….help? I think the little clothes you made are so sweet! Also,I’ve noted that you take orders for different things from time to time – is this something you would take an order for? Although, I really would love to make them myself – just depends on time and so on.
Many blessings for the New Year!
Love,
Cammie Grace
Happy New Year to you and your family!
For tips, I’d suggest choosing simple patterns. Kwik Sew patterns are the wonderful in terms of construction order/simplicity and instructions. Are you thinking knit or woven (non-stretchy)? If knits, use a stretchy thread in the loopers of a serger. I think trying to sew knits on a sewing machine is hard. So if you don’t have a serger, stick with something that isn’t of stretchy fabric. Although… the Kwik Sew patterns are really helpful in teaching how to accomplish sewing knits on a regular SM, so don’t take me too seriously.
I would be happy to take an order for anything you’d like. If you’ve seen something here or if you’re looking for something else, I can dig around and see what I can do. Or you can purchase fabric and mail it to me. I’m flexible!
Baby clothes are actually very fast because all the seams are that much shorter. They get hard if you try to get intricate. I prefer simplicity in all garments so I choose simple no matter what size. But if it is simple and for a child, it is usually super easy! So go for it if you’re at all inclined. Otherwise, I will be happy to help.
Love, Wardeh
