Reupholstering Couch: Phase 1 (Incomplete)
As of this afternoon, I’ve taken the couch from this

to this.

I’d say I’m more than half way with the disassembly. I’m down to having to undo the base that goes under the cushions, tipping the couch upside down to release everything stapled down there, and removing the cushion covers.
As per the instructions of the kind lady at the home dec fabric store, I’m taking pictures of every step and clearly labeling each piece as it comes off. Because at some point, I’ll have to put it all back together with identical pieces cut from new cloth. ![]()
I’m beginning to wonder (no, I am wondering) if I’ll ever get to put it back together. Taking it all off is a beast. I’m also wondering whether this was a good idea. As each staple comes out — oh, there are tons of them — I realize that there’s no going back. Hopefully what I do to the couch will improve it!
Naomi and Mikah were my helpers in disassembling the back of the couch. After awhile, all the staples and the difficulty removing them wore Mikah out. Naomi stayed in the game longer, as one of her gifts is perseverance.

Thank you for your help, Naomi & Mikah!

Oh my goodness!!! Is that the couch that Jamie gave to you all? I can’t wait to see what the finished product will look like. You are going to do a beautiful job recovering it. Tell the kids hi from all if us here. Talk to you soon.
Love, Tiff
It sure is! I knew you would recognize it. We have worn it down and it is so stained now, but I am thankful for it. Underneath, it is in really good shape. A great couch and I often think of Jamie who gave it to us when we were in need and you who hooked us up!
Love to you and yours! ~Wardeh
Wow, what a job you have takeled! I’m looking forward in seeing what colors you have chosen and what its going to look like when its finished. I’ve started a couch cover and finding it hard to finish do to being 31wks pregnent and in my spare time wanting to take naps when I’m setting or being still.
blessings to you.
Hello, dear friend! I’m glad you’re taking naps instead of tackling big projects! Say hello to all the kiddoes and your husband. Have a wonderful, wonderful Christmas! Love, Wardeh
I can’t wait for the next phase! Thanks to your tutorials, I just might brave the old sofa in my family room . . . .
Thanks for the great step-by-step!
I just started dissassembling a settee myself and decided I needed a little assistance. You’re right there are a million staples and nails holding the fabric on. Is there any easier way or tool to use besides a screwdriver?
Thank you for any assistance you might be able to provide.’
