Thoughts About My Children

Naomi is my helper in the kitchen lately. We are having a sweet time together. Last week she told me that she didn’t think we spent enough time together and she missed me. You know, I think she was right. So now we cook together and make time to sit and visit together. I love sweetening our relationship. She is a dear child.

Today we have our day to run errands and go to music lessons. We want to start Mikah in piano lessons as he seems to be musically minded. That needs training. We’ve talked with him for months about it but he always says confidently that he can play by himself — and he does that. He will hear a song or movie theme and go to the keyboard and plunk it out within seconds. He picked up our friend’s violin last summer and played “Twinkle, twinkle” right off the bat. He just figured it out. That amazes me. He won’t be beginning lessons today, but I am going to talk to the girls’ teacher to inquire after scheduling him, too. Jeff suggested we ask her to spend a few minutes with him and just teach him one thing, then Mikah could see that there’s nothing to fear and it would be fun.

And then Haniya… she spends all her free time writing stories. She is my dependable one. I never have to get after her to practice, study, or clean up her stuff. A few days ago, Jeff measured how tall each of the girls were — Haniya has hit 5 feet. Wow! She’s 10 going on 16. Her poise is more woman-like every day.

  1. Oh, your words make me miss them even more. Yes, God has graced you with such beautiful (inside and out) children. We are so blessed to be their grandparents. I can hardly wait to give them some warm hugs and kisses. Have a great day and tell the children how much I love them. I love you, too, dear Wardeh, and am so thankful to God for you.

  2. You Mikah reminds me of my younger son, who is now a sophomore in college double majoring in pipe organ and music education. When he was nine, the only thing he wanted for Christmas was a complete set of the keyboard music used for the hymns at our church. He has kept his love of sacred music and hopes to continue to serve the Lord as a church organist when he graduates. He always had such a love for music, and is so happy to be pursuing it in college now. Often, he can’t express himself as well in words as he can in music.

  3. You are so right about each one. They are treasures and each of their personalities is unique and inspiring, teaching us to learn a new way to see, interact and love them. I love you all so much. Love, Mom

  4. What a talented little boy. I would really like to spend more time with my children. I have seriously considered doing home school, but it seems so very overwhelming. I have a 13 yr old boy, almost 10 yr old girl and a 4 year old boy. Have you always done home school? How much of your time is involved?
Thank you for reminding me to really appreciate my own children and for the spirit that I feel from you.

Hi, Tiffany. Homeschooling is and can be overwhelming, but if it is on your heart, it is worth seeking out. For our family, about half of my day is involved. All morning, off and on working with whoever needs my help and reading aloud also. Then right after lunch we spend 15 minutes on a Greek or Latin root and then 1/2 hour on a science lessons. When I feel overwhelmed, I remind myself that I could be driving here and there everyday and having lots of out-of-the-home activities. That would overwhelm me more and cost more of my time and energy. If you have more questions, we could correspond by email. Love, Wardeh

  5. That’s wonderful Wardeh! Thanks for sharing!

  6. What a sweet blessing your children are. And what a sweet Momma they have as well. You and your hubby are such great parents. :D
