The Perfect Pattern Tracing Paper

Probably most sewers know about this already; it was good news to me! The best tracing paper for patterns is the table paper from a doctor’s office. It is cheap, sturdier than tissue paper, and more see-through than newsprint. If you want to buy it on your own, you’d have to buy a box of 12 rolls for more than $100. I thought about checking ebay to see if one could buy a single roll, but I haven’t yet.

I stopped at my doctor’s office two weeks ago to see if I could buy a roll from her. She didn’t have any because she uses cloth sheets that she launders, instead of disposable paper. I’m glad for the environment that she does that, but sad for me.

The next day, her husband — he works the desk — called, saying they tracked down a roll for me. That was really thoughtful. When I asked the charge, he said they’d have to charge me double what they paid. Then he paused and chuckled and said that they hadn’t paid anything for it. That’s a good price!

Then when I went to pick it up last Wednesday, they gave me that roll of table paper, plus: 3 cucumbers, 2 zucchinis, a bunch of golden delicious apples, a box of Granny Smith apples, a pumpkin, and a bunch of pieces of foam from a yard sale.

I can hardly believe these nice people are my doctor and her husband!

  1. Wow! How nice. Do you live in a small community?

Yes, it is pretty small. But I think it has more to do with the fact that our doctor is someone who retired, then went back to school to be a naturopath. She does that because she likes it and her husband works with her. A very small office. They are a sweet couple.

  2. What a blessing! So….what are you going to make? :)
Is everything the right answer? ;) I’ve already used it for 4 projects and boy, does it beat the newsprint! I can see through it, that is the key benefit. Love, Wardeh

  3. In case you didn’t find out already, and if you go through allot of the paper (like some people), Nancy’s Notions sells these rolls of paper. That’s where I was able to find it.
