I’m Experimenting with Cream Pies!
These cream pies are non-dairy, egg-free, whole foods, sweetened with agave and/or fruit, and gluten-free! Yesterday I tried a chocolate cream pie (needs tweaking) and this morning, a banana-cream pie (don’t know how good it is yet).
So… watch for some fun new recipes. I can’t wait to share some results with you!

yummmmmy can wait to see some recipes..

Hi, Cindy! We tasted the banana pie, it is pretty good! Love, Wardeh
My husband’s favorite pie is chocolate cream and I have never even made him one, can you believe it. I can’t wait to see your recipes and give them a try some day.
Oh, dear, well I’m not sure these cream pies are going to rival true cream pies, but they certainly are good! What I’m trying to say is that they won’t be replicas, but they’ll be very good in their own right. Love, Wardeh
Please do post the recipes when you get a chance. I am eager to try the banana cream! I will admit, however, that I have a hard time being healthy when I make desserts. Something about eating dessert lends itself to indulging - right?!
It’s not too late to convert me and your posts are doing a good job of at least convicting me.
I’m curious to hear your story behind gluten and dairy-free cooking/baking. You mentioned Mikah’s food allergies in a recent post and I’m sure blogged about it earlier - maybe point me to the post and I’ll read it. (When did he acquire them, or when did you notice them and how, and what difference have you noticed in general (him and the rest of you) since you changed your diet?)).
I think I’ve written about it off and on, so I can’t really point you to one place. I’ll try to sum it up quickly. When Mikah was born, he had horrible eczema right from the get go. After 2-1/2 years experimenting with trying natural, fragrance-free soaps and keeping him out of pesticides (like on grasses at the park, etc.), but only ending up with marginal success, we decided to focus on his diet (internal allergens). We changed our diet to be whole foods and vegan. His rashes went away after 5 weeks. Soft baby skin… finally! After a year or so, we decided to introduce natural meats and animal foods to see what happened. He got rashes from eggs. So we knew that was an allergy, for sure. Then we had allergy testing done for him and eggs came up, along with some citrus, peanuts and garlic. And all this time, we’d been eating whole foods because we came to believe that it was best, while catering to certain allergies. Fast forward to this year –> we had allergy testing done on the whole family and found that my oldest daughter, Haniya, is allergic to gluten (wheat, barley, rye, spelt, kamut), along with dairy. Jeff and Mikah are sensitive to wheat and eggs. Jeff is sensitive to dairy. There are other foods, too. But the ones I listed are the biggies.
So the bottom line is… we eat whole, natural foods because we believe that to be the best all around. Then we avoid certain trigger foods (eggs, dairy, wheat, gluten, citrus, garlic) because we show allergies to those foods.
Mikah’s difference is tremendous — no rashes, no itching, soft skin. Haniya’s difference is in her digestion; her stools are just like they should be. For the rest of us, not that big a difference. Overall, we’re much more healthy, but that is because of having a healthy diet all-around.
