Flax Seed Hot Pacs

These flax seed hot pacs are double layered and channeled to keep the flax seeds in place. They are about 12 x 12 inches. This weekend, I made one of these for myself and one for a gift. I want to make 1 more as a gift.

Wardeh,
What kind of fabric did you use?
Tracy in NC
Tracy, on both of the hot pacs I used an old, thick sheet for the lining. The blue pac has a blue flannel outer and the floral is a quilter’s cotton outer. I sewed the lining and outer together when I made them. You can also sew the lining separately, fill it with flax seeds and then create a pillow for that with the outer. Love, Wardeh
That looks like a cool project to make. Sewing machines and I do not get along but I could help my dd in making one, she’s learning to sew. I may have to suggest this to the gal teaching her girls group.
How big are they? I love both fabrics! What’s the benefit of using flax seeds as opposed to rice?
Amy, they are about 11 x 12, or 12 x 12. I put the channels across the 12 inch side, as it made each channel 2 inches wide. The benefit to using flax seeds is they don’t smell and I think they make a softer and smoother pac. You should try to make one when you get a sewing machine set up again. Love, Wardeh
