Baby Girl Hat

My friend gave birth to a baby girl on Saturday morning. The baby was born 10 minutes after they arrived at the hospital. ;) A great birth! The kids and I will get to meet her tomorrow. I love babies and wish (especially when holding a newborn) that we would have more.

You might remember that I made a dress for a baby girl not too long ago; that was for this same baby.

I really wanted to take another gift with me tomorrow when we visit. So I made a hat. It was too fun.

I followed Butterick See & Sew Pattern B4764, size Large. The size differences in the pattern seemed so miniscule to me that I just made it easy on myself and cut out the largest one. Plus it will fit the baby longer. I used this green floral quilting cotton that I love; it was my contribution to the T2CHK Fabric Swap we held not too long ago.

A pattern note. Seam allowances are specified as 5/8″ throughout. However, the directions neglected to mention using a 1/4″ seam allowance when putting the crown together. It doesn’t work otherwise. Thankfully, this was one of the few times when I caught a mistake the first time through.  So keep that in mind, should you ever use this pattern.

  1. I’d have to look at my pattern to be sure, but the hat looks just like one I made for Eileen. It was a fun project. If I ever get a sewing machine I’d like to make a couple more.
