Tiered Skirts

I practiced with tiered skirts on Saturday afternoon. I haven’t made them for almost 2 years. I have wanted to make them again for the girls, but didn’t want to have to go through the usual steps of gathering for each tier. Now that I have the serger, the gathering part is easy and it proved to be so in making up 2 tiered skirts in about an hour — one each for Haniya and Naomi. I used up some cotton in a red bandana print that Jeff’s godmother gave me.

bandanatieredskirts.jpgI’ll show you the picture I took of the girls in the skirts, even though I’m not perfectly pleased. The girls like the skirts, though.

I think each tier should be more full. I increased the fullness in each tier by increments of 25% (the 1st tier being 150% of the waist, the 2nd tier being 175% of the waist and the 3rd tier being 200%), but I think I should do increments of 50% next time and see if that extra fullness will be give me more what I have in mind. Also, I divided the skirt into 3 tiers but I think they were each too wide. For the same length skirt — to the mid-calf, I want to do 4 tiers next time.

The girls are wearing the skirts with t-shirts that I made them a few weeks ago.
