Summer PJ’s

Jeff’s godmother bought a bunch of fabric for me to make up summer pj’s for the kids. You might get the impression from the fabric choices that she is a very colorful, fun person. If this is what you thought, you are right!

The kids will wear these PJ shorts with t-shirts that they already have.

Because the fabric store where she bought the fabric was closing, there were different lengths of this fabric available. So I couldn’t quite coordinate the girls’ nightgowns. Since there wasn’t enough of the coordinating stripes for Haniya’s skirt, I could only bind the neckline and armholes of the bodice with the striped fabric. It does look cute. I actually think I am glad that they are a little different. The girls are growing out of being completely coordinated. On Naomi’s skirt, the back half I had to piece together to get a large enough piece to cut it out. I matched the stripes exactly so no one can tell unless they know about it. It is only a nightgown, after all.

of which there wasn’t sufficient to make a skirt.

I used a feature on my serger that I hadn’t attempted before — the Serger Gathering Attachment. That was the highlight of my day because it allowed me to gather the skirt of each nightgown while attaching it to the matching bodice, while running it through the serger in one pass.

The pattern I used, with modifications, is New Look 6334.

The modifications I made were to remove the ruffles at the shoulder caps and lengthen the skirt. This is the same pattern from which I made a child’s bathrobe in May for a friend.
