A young lady from our church gave Naomi a sweet birthday gift back in March — 1/8th of yard of each of 5 summer bright prints.
Naomi decided she wanted to make a quilt for her baby. Since it was raining on Wednesday afternoon, it was the perfect day to start the project.
We cut (25) 5″x5″ squares from the fabric. She laid out the blocks how she wanted them. (We actually changed the layout a bit after taking the picture.)

She machine-pieced the entire quilt top that same afternoon. She needs very little help now with using the sewing machine — she lines up the fabric, puts it under the presser foot, sinks the needle and sews (including backstitching). She sews very precisely; I am amazed at her neat, straight rows of stitching. I did have to help a bit attaching the rows together, because those corners are tricky to line up, but she sewed most of the top by herself.

This afternoon, I am going to let her choose her method of quilting — stitching in the ditch or hand-tying. It is raining again, so a good day to sew. We might even get to the binding today.

Wow!
thats simply awesome! Good work Naomi!
Sweet Naomi — How precious you are to be making your baby a quilt so you don’t have to share your pretty quilt with her. I am so impressed that you are sewing. You are growing up, Naomi. I look forward to seeing you in Clovis in July. I want you to bring your baby and her quilt with you. I love and miss you so very much.
