Machine Quilting
I’ve machine quilted smaller projects before, but today is the first time I’ve attempted a bed size quilt. Now I know why ladies like to use a long arm machine at quilt shops!

There is such a lot of bulk to fit through the arm of a regular sewing machine.
But I am happy I’m doing it. When I bought my serger& CS back in December, I ordered a walking foot for my sewing machine because it was 15% off. It really does help feed all the layers under the presser foot.
This is the quilt for Naomi’s birthday. I would guess I’m about 2/3 of the way through the machine quilting. We’re eating lunch now, so I had to take a break! Oh, and we also need to have a science lesson. Then the kids are heading outside and I’m back to the machine.
All morning I have had a sheet draped across the entrance to the sewing area/family room, so Naomi won’t see what I’m doing. She knows I’m up to something, but not what it is (hopefully).

Naomi will be very happy when she sees this. Pace yourself with the quilting, it can be very hard on the arms and shoulders!
There is nothing worse than doing a big quilt on a regular sewing machine. It makes lap quilting and slip stitching the whole backing together block by block look like a very good idea at times!
Now you tell me! My arms are killing me! But I’m almost done. Thanks for the encouragement and the warnings.
Love, Wardeh
It is going to be so beautiful!

I know that Naomi will love it.
Thanks, Robin. I am almost done now — just the binding left. Love, Wardeh
It’s so pretty! I’m sure Naomi will love it.
I tried machine stitching my first quilt. I got the idea from a book I had called Quilt in a Weekend…or maybe it was Weekend Quilting…something like that. Anyhow, it was difficult, and I have since done all my quilting by hand, but it turned out alright. I’m sure you’ll get it!
I think that’s the book from which I made my first quilt — Amish Barn Raising. This machine quilting is difficult. I think I’ll do it again, but I’ll do some things differently, since I now know that implementing some ideas makes it much more difficult than it has to be! Love, Wardeh
