Rolled Hem Napkins from Vintage Fabric
One of the first things I practiced on my serger is the rolled hem. Wow, I like it! After a few tries on scrap fabric, I figured I may as well practice on something we can use. So I made napkins while practicing the rolled hem. I worked on turning the corners and taking care of the beginning and ending thread tails.

Check out this cotton faux quilt print of half-square triangles. I bet you can’t guess where I got it. No surprise — the thrift store! I loved it on sight and now I love it even more when the table is set with these napkins. I had enough fabric to make 6 napkins, plus 2 little doilies — one each for Haniya and Naomi to use for their dolls or bookcase or whatever.

Those are really cute, Wardeh. I love the fabric you find at the thrift stores. We don’t have a lot of nice thrift stores here, so I don’t find a lot of things like that. I hope you’re having fun with your serger! Mom and I have tossed back and forth the idea of getting one, but I don’t sew often enough anymore to justify it. Maybe someday when the babies are older…Oh, and to answer your question on my blog, Mom machine quilted the notebook cover. She does both regularly.
What a surprise to see one of my favorite fabrics! I used the exact same pattern to make a Christmas tree skirt about 15 yrs ago. It was fabric that my dear Grandmother gave me. She loved to sew and do handwork. She was very gracious and taught me much of what I know. I put out my tree skirt each year and have wonderful memories of my “Granny”.
ohapizgud — I loved, loved hearing about your treasured tree skirt and your memories of your “Granny”! I shared your memories with my family at dinner and we all smiled. I can’t think of a more pleasant, happy story that I’ve heard in a long time. I’m tickled that this fabric is loved in your home, too. I only wish I knew where my fabric came from. I wonder the happy memories at its source???
Love, Wardeh
