Snow Day

After an abbreviated school day, we’re about to have some leftover soup and bread for lunch. Then the kids are free to play! It is cold and wet outside, so I think we’ll have a fair bit of in and out going on. Already the laundry room is quite muddy (as usual).

This is the view we have right now outside our front door down to the road.

I’m calling around today to see where Jeff can pick up sleds on his way home from work. That will be a nice surprise for the kids!

  1. oh boy! We’ve yet to see any here…beatuiful!

Doesn’t look enough to sled in yet unless you find some good plastic ones…need it to pack down.

Add some old towels or quilts to keep from bruising your own tailbone! (not that I would know…OW!)

  2. We have used plastic tote lids as sleds with great success. We haven’t had measurable snow in 3 years, so there isn’t much sense storing a sled here. Love the picture! I hope you all have a lot of fun!

  3. Geneva, that’s a good idea to use the tote lids!

Mag, oh, I won’t ask how you know about bruised tailgates. Thanks for the tips. Jeff is going to get the sleds because we always want to have them “just in case” even though the liklihood the kids will sled today is about zero. Even now the snow is almost gone. Sad. :( But it is supposed to get cold and snow again tonight, so perhaps by tomorrow morning or later on in the winter?

  4. Yeah, you’d have to have a 4-5 in. snow to use alternatives to sleds with much success.

We like to have a few handy, too. We have a couple round ones and a couple long ones. My hubby borrows his Dad’s 4 wheeler now to “tow” us back up the hills…now THAT is a clever idea for sure!

Hope you get to go this winter!

  5. Oh…and we just have a particularly stumpy-rocky hill, and my 5 yr old wouldn’t go down alone. With him in my lap, I could shift my weight and kept hitting on the same part of my tailbone…I’ll tell you, I was in pain for WEEKS! and then…it snowed again…and I tried again! I’m a bit slow to learn. But, I did take an old High School bleacher foam pad cushie to sit on that time! Yeah for fanny cushies! (That sounds a bit odd). Anyway, humor is good.

  6. Maggie :D
At least no one can accuse you of not putting your children first! Great story!

  7. What a nice view from your front door! No snow days for us here. If we want snow, we have to drive to it, and that usually happens only once a year, right after Christmas.
