Experimenting
I’m ready to work in the kitchen today and determined to try some new things. I copied a recipe for Buttermilk Bread out of my friend’s cookbook last night and that was my first experiment of the day. Of course I’ve made some changes
I hope we like it.
My next experiment, to commence shortly, is to make some little hearty bread bars with add-ins like nuts, raisins and cinnamon. We’ve purchased a similar product at Trader Joe’s that is called something like “Energy Bars” or something like that. That’s what I’m trying to achieve. I’m starting with a breadsticks recipe as the bread base and then doctoring it up.
I think the blackberry jam is fine. I opened the jars; they hadn’t come unsealed yet, but I’m fairly sure they weren’t sealed tightly. I transfered all the contents to the freezer in fresh containers.
I’m also working on laundry and I must clean out the refrigerator today. This evening is movie night. We haven’t had popcorn for a few weeks, so we’re going to have it tonight. Mikah will be happy. Yesterday he told me that he couldn’t wait to be a grown up because then he could make himself popcorn whenever he wanted. (He loves food.) I think perhaps we’ll also have some Chocolate Banana Milkshakes, since we have plenty of frozen bananas and fresh Almond Milk right now. We’re having wild coho salmon for dinner tonight, as it was on sale this week at the grocery, along with Buttermilk Bread and a green salad.
We woke up to fog this morning but the sun has burned it all off. Jeff’s gassing up the tractor right now and going to continue the digging project (nope, still not done, but coming along). It is getting hard because the slope is so deep now that he has to get really close with the backhoe and after digging a little, the backhoe gets buried. So a little digging, a little hauling, a little more digging, a little more hauling… that is how it is progressing.
This morning we had the metal sheeting put back up on the pole barn. The front metal sheeting was taken down by the previous owners and we were eager to get it back up before the winter rains. Two guys came out to do it and with their lift and electric screw setter (or whatever the thing is called) it took them all of an hour and a half.

Ooooh, I can’t wait to hear how your energy bars turn out. I would LOVE the recipe!
