Visiting a New Friend

Yesterday was so fun. I got to meet a new friend. You could meet her too, by visiting her blog, Wildflower Meadow. We met on the phone last year through a mutual friend (Elizabeth of Rose Cottage) and it took us until now to get together. She’s interested in One-Stroke painting, which I dabble in, and so I went over to her house for the morning and we painted together. She practiced some of the basic strokes and is getting quite good, while I painted a “Welcome” sign to hang outside our house.

When I arrived, she gifted me with a beautiful magazine basket full of wonderful goodies — postcards from our area that the girls can send out to their pen pals, a Mary Engelbreit tea cup, homemade beeswax soaps, a book with encouraging entries on simplicity (Simple Abundance — A Daybook of Comfort and Joy, by Sarah Ban Breathnach) and an armchair sewing buddy. There may be more things; the basket seemed full of unending treasures! She made a yummy cinnamon coffee cake and we drank chai tea. And we painted. I met some of her lovely children and grandchildren, who were all delightful and polite and beautiful.

Then we went second-hand shopping together. Boy, did we find some treasures. The best thing I found was a solid wood, long, 3-shelf bookcase for $19.99. It is Naomi’s now and her smaller bookcase I moved over to Mikah’s room. All his books have been cluttering the family room and now they are where they should be. I found some pants for the kids that will come in handy this winter. And sheets! I love sheet shopping. That is one thing that Flora and I have in common — we both found some fun ones.

The day was a blessing. I am thankful for good friends!
