Homemade Witch Hazel and Tea Tree Oil Toner (Astringent)

  • 16-ounce bottle Witch Hazel (approximately 14% alcohol)
  • 30 to 40 drops tea tree oil

Add drops of tea tree oil into the bottle of Witch Hazel. Shake before each use. Apply to face and neck with lightly saturated cotton pad.

Variation for very oily skin: Before adding tea tree oil, pour off 10% to 15% of the Witch Hazel into another container for later use. Fill the original bottle with additional alcohol to replace the Witch Hazel that was poured off. Add drops of tea tree oil.

  1. Bought the tea tree oil today Wardee, am looking for a snazzy bottle , then am on to trying this toner, thank you as alway’s Dear One for sharing your life and lessons and recipes..warm and gentle hugs..Mona

  2. I hope you like it, Mona! Please let me know :)

  3. Haven’t found a snazzy bottle yet but am using the toner and I find I do not have to use the mositurizer I usually do!
I did put some alcohol in and found that ,that works well.
Also I scrubbed my face gently after washing it with some almond pulp from my last batch of milk and found that that and the toner were all I needed..Keep your wonderful idea’s coming..you enrich my life Dear sweet Wardee! warm hugs

  4. Love It!!

  5. Today is my first night trying this formulation—my face has a cooling sensation which I love—I’m hoping this is a killer combo! I’ve been using witch hazel alone, so I’m interested to see how Tea Tree Oil does with it.

  6. I wash my face with lavender soap, then just tea tree oil on a cotton ball as toner, then I moisturize. I use a lot less moisturizer if I use the tea tree oil. I had HORRIBLE cyst-like acne all over my cheeks, jawline and chin. The tea tree oil cleared it up in a couple weeks. I recently went back to this regimine because I’ve been getting pimply and hoping it clears my skin up again. What are the benefits of witch hazel? I always associate witch hazel with hemmoroids so is it like an anti-inflammatory for the skin?

  7. christina says:

if 20 drops of tea tree oil is 1ml why didn’t you just say 1.5 to 2ml (i just had to search the internet for a translation of what size bottle i would need)

    • Christina — That’s a good point and you can certainly measure it so. My tea tree oil bottles usually have droppers and I’m used to counting drops. Either way, it works.

  8. Hey, looking forward to doing this one. I have 70% alcohol, is that too pure to add to witch hazel?
