Trail Cut In

The box blade/scraper on Jeff’s tractor is an amazing tool. He spent the weekend cutting in some rough trails. We have a vision of having trails going all around our property, winding in and out of native plant gardens, groves of trees, past the Big Tree, by an orchard, by animal pasture and by the kitchen garden. Now that the trails are roughly in in some places (there are still more to go…), we are enjoying walking it and envisioning more and more of what it will be like.

I took pictures today just to document our progress. The trails are rough and as you can see, we still have piles and piles of brush. Little by little, right?

This is one of the paths leading to the Big Tree. Mikah is on his way there to play!

Up this path are the kids’ Forest Homes.

We are looking down from the top of our property here, up above everything that is ours. Do you see the girls headed down the trail, skipping like best friends?

  1. These trails are just super! Will you leave them as they are or add somekind of trail cover like wood chips or rocks? Is there are body of water on your property that the trail will lead to?

  2. Sylvia, wouldn’t that be nice if we had a body of water, but no, we don’t! That trails will just weave through the different areas of the property. There will be about 3 big loops and all connected in places to get from one to the other of the loops.

We are going to put trail cover. We think probably chips because we’ve already lined up the power company to dump their chips here that are from tree trimming. This will happen at the end of the year. But before winter, Jeff needs to retain the walls of the trails, either with logs or tires — so we don’t lose our trails from the rain washing them away.

  3. That sounds smart, I would not have thought of that! I am enjoying seeing your property as you do more and more to make it how you’ve dreamed of. :)
