Meet Wardeh & Her Family

Thank you for visiting Such Treasures!

I am Wardeh (”Wardee”) Harmon and I live in the Pacific Northwest with my fantastic husband, Jeff. God blessed us with three awesome children — our eldest daughter, Haniya — 10-1/2; middle daughter, Naomi — 9; and youngest son, Mikah — 7-1/2. We live in the country and love it!

familypic2007.jpg

We love being at our home out in the country. I spend the rest of my time homeschooling the children, cooking in the kitchen, or attempting to create something wearable in my sewing area. Okay, I do a bit of cleaning, too, but only because I have to. Now you know what my two passions are — cooking and sewing.

Food is a big deal to us. We not only strive to eat foods the way God made them, but we also work around multiple food allergies in family meembers. My recipes don’t include any eggs or dairy products (with the exception of occasional goat milk). And now, due to my daughter’s recently discovered gluten allergy, the Recipe Directory features gluten-free recipes. My tried and true gluten-containing grain recipes are still there, too. There is one other curious peculiarity about my recipes — not many of them call for garlic. Some members of my family are allergic to it. Garlic, being delicious in most foods, is a simple ingredient to add, should you desire it. I welcome your comments, questions or suggestions. Use the comment form or write to me.

Love,

Wardeh (”Wardee”) Harmon, owner

  2. Wardah, I LOVE your blog! Its so “gentle!” Its almost like I can hear your soft spoken voice. Everything sounds so peaceful! I love your creativity and resourcefulness. You’ve been placed on my favorite list!

  3. Thank you, dear Mona and Tracy. :)
Tracy, what is your link? I don’t believe I have it.

  4. Hello….I noticed your girls are using a Knifty Knitter. The instructions for ours were lost in our move, and my girls are getting frustrated. ProvoCraft does not provide “just the instructions” and I haven’t found them anywhere else. I was curious if you knew of a source that supplies the instructions that are included with the set of looms?? Thank you!

  5. Hi, Jennifer. I will look around and email you with some information. Right now my girls are out of town and took the looms with them, so as soon as they get back, I’ll be able to look at the instructions, unless I find something on the web first.

  6. Jennifer, I found this link, where there are free downloadable instructions and advanced instructions available for purchase.

  8. Thank you, Claire! I am glad you liked it.

  9. Wardeh,
I drop by your blog frequently and am in awe. I am curious about your lifestyle. Do you consider yourselves homesteaders? What led you to buy a large plot of land in the country? We are searching for God’s plan for our family and I just wonder how you ended up where you are. We are selling our house, have either given away or sold most of our worldly possessions and are living in an RV until God makes his will known concerning where he wants us to be.
Your blog is very inspiring and I love your recipes.
    Blessings,
    Geneva

  10. Geneva, thank you so much for your sweet words, although I think you think too highly of us! Hee, hee. I guess we would like to call ourselves homesteaders but we’re not there yet. We don’t provide much for ourselves yet and our property is not productive yet either. But we’re working toward that.

This is the first time we’ve lived in the country. We bought this property last year. We bought it because my husband has always desired to live in the country. He loves land, he loves animals, he loves dirt, he loves plants. He desires to be self-sufficient. I desire to be a good homemaker. I love all things to do with creating and maintaining a happy, healthy household — the crafts, the cooking, the schooling. So we love it here. It is a good place to do all of it!

We’re in the midst of putting things in place — garden, fencing, etc. This has mostly so far involved more cleaning up than anything. With my husband working full-time elsewhere, it is slow going, but it is going, praise the Lord. We’ve accomplished alot this year and still have much to do.

I am touched by what you shared that you and your family have done. I will certainly pray for you in discerning God’s will. I hope you will continue to visit my blog and let me know how you’re doing!

    God bless,
    Love, Wardeh

  11. You keep lighting the candle and shining it for all to see.

  16. What a great blog! I found you when I was looking for a recipe for raw nut milk. I really enjoyed my visit here.

  17. Hello, Rachelle! I am glad you “found” me and hope you’ll visit again. :D

  18. Hi, I saw you on another blog, sorry can’t remember whose. But I loved what I’ve read. I plan on stopping by agina if that’s ok?

  19. Hello, celticmuse. It is definitely okay for you to stop by again. :D

  20. I’ve been flipping around on your site and you just seem so happy to do all this. I’m a mom of 3 small ones, but I get so worn out that I feel like I hardly do anything. Or I do lots of things, but just in very small amounts. How did you get started homeschooling? And do you mind if I put you on my blogroll?

  21. Hi, Hopeful!

I hope you’re not getting the idea that I do all the things I love at the same time! I just do a little everyday. I do really, really enjoy what I do. God gives me joy and I am thankful for that.

We got started homeschooling when our first child, Haniya, was ready for kindergarten. For our family, it was what we thought was best. I’ve gotten used to schooling hard each morning and a bit after lunch, interspersed with chores. That leaves the afternoon free for a few hours for a project or writing or reading. That is how our days go, really. I do have an hour or two in the evening to work on something — that is, if my husband and I aren’t talking, which we like to do. :D
So I am like you — doing things in small amounts and I do get worn out, too. Some days, I don’t work on a project at all, I just read. I love to read!

Please come back and visit again. Yes, you can add me to your blogroll. I will visit your blog, too. :D
    Love, Wardeh

  22. Wardeh, you are very inspiring to me! I just came across your website, acutally looking for homemade peanut butter recipes, and am glad to find your site.
I was just wondering if you’ve heard of the book “What the Bible sais About Healthy Living”? Health is one of my great passions and this book (for me) really hits the nail on the head.
    Thanks for being you!
    God Bless,
    Michelle

Hi, Michelle. I hope you found what you needed about making peanut butter. You can also do it in a good food processor. I did it that way the other day. It takes longer than in the Vitamix, but it does work well, too.

I haven’t read that book. Who is the author? I will search for it at the library and try to check it out.

    Love, Wardeh

  23. Hi Wardeh!
The author is Dr. Rex Russell and I do have a copy I would be happy to send to you :) I have lots of extras and actually replenish my stock when I run out…

Thanks, Michelle! I would love it. How about if I send you a bar of soap in exchange? I will email you with my address.

The Vitamix is on my Christmas list. My blender just doesn’t do the job as well as I think it should. Do you add honey to yours at all? I wonder if the consistency would be better if I did not add honey. I need to experiment a bit more.

That would be so exciting for you to get a VM. I am not sure what you’re asking about the honey — do I add it to what? Love, Wardeh

  24. Yes, okay, soap sounds good, Thanks Wardeh! I’ll be watching for your e-mail.

Peanut Butter, do you add honey in with your peanut butter? :)
    Love,
    ME

Hey, Michelle! I sent you another email just now. I sent one a couple of days ago, too. If you don’t get those, you’ll have to email me — wardeh at suchtreasures dot com.

No, we’ve never added honey… sounds good, though!

    Love, Wardeh

  25. I appreciate seeing your beautiful family. I am from…thousands of miles away on the east coast. I live in semi-country, the best we can do at country living with my husband’s job.

God bless you Wardeh. Thank you for your blog site.

Hi, Lauren. Your comments are very sweet. We all do the best we can do, don’t we? We may live in a very rural area but we have miles to go to truly be living country. Slowly but surely. God bless you and have a wonderful Christmas! Love, Wardeh
